Technical requirements for layouts
Technical requirements for layouts are a set of rules that help prepare a file for printing without errors, color distortions, cropped elements, or loss of quality. Proper layout preparation allows you to obtain a result that matches your expectations and approved design as closely as possible.

This page outlines the main requirements for preparing layouts for various printing products: business cards, postcards, flyers, plastic cards, wide-format printing, and other items. Following these recommendations significantly speeds up launching an order into production and helps avoid additional revisions.
Important Particulars
Please note that file format, color model, image resolution, bleed margins, and correct font preparation are crucial for printing. Even minor deviations from technical requirements can affect the appearance of the finished product after printing and post-press processing.
The layout must be provided in one of the following programs – CorelDraw, Photoshop, Illustrator.
Files in the following format are accepted for printing:
- .TIFF (color model CMYK)
- .PSD (color model CMYK) – Adobe Photoshop
- .EPS, .AI (color model CMYK) – Adobe Illustrator with embedded links
- .CDR (color model CMYK) – Corel Draw (fonts are translated into curves)
- .PDF (all fonts must be embedded in the PDF)
*images must be made in one layer and have no alpha channels, or paths.
- The size of one side is 94×54 mm;
- text, logos and all important information should be no closer than 3 mm from the edge of the
- finished product;
- CMYK color model;
- all fonts must be rasterized or translated into a curve;
- the following effects are not allowed in models prepared in COREL DRAW: transparency, lenses, drop shadow
- resolution 300 dpi.

Bitmap resolution (size 1:1)
- image up to 1 m – 200-300 dpi
- image 1.6×2 m – 100-150 dpi
- image 2×3 m – 72-80 dpi
- image 3×6 m – 40-50 dpi
- image 6×9 m – 30 dpi
- image over 9 m – 18-20 dpi
Requirements for vector formats
- Image scale 1:1
- All fonts in vector format must be converted to curves.
- In layouts prepared in CORELDRAW, the use of the following effects is not allowed: transparency (Transparency), lenses (Lens), shadow (Drop Shadow)
Color Requirements
The criterion for determining color is the percentage of color (CMYK) at each specific point in the image, and not a printer printout or a layout display on a computer monitor. In addition, we recommend that you order a color proof if you have strict wishes regarding the color. Otherwise, color claims will not be accepted.
Transferring layouts
Files with layouts are accepted on CD, DVD, FlashCard through file exchangers (www.fex.ua, www.dropbox.com). You can also send files up to 20 MB via email.
Plastic cards (86×54)
- The size of the layout should be exactly 90×57. The cropping area is 87×55, the size of the finished product will be 86×54 (this must be taken into account).
- Layout submission in eps, cdr formats (in this case, your layout will be exported to (.eps) for working with it in InDesign), tif, png, jpg, pdf (very undesirable). If presented in a different size, the layout will be deformed and converted to the above size.
- The area from 86×54 to 90×57 is considered to be the working area, when cutting out there may be shifts within this area, do not press important details of the layout to the temporal area.
- The layout must be in the CMYK color model, RGB is also accepted, but not mixed.
- The total amount of colors in colors is not more than 300%; zero color components not less than 4%.
- Black color [Black] (C 0%, M 0%, Y 0%. To 100%)
- Effects must be rasterized, fonts converted to curves.
- If the numbering elements along with the layout must be enclosed in a font that exists in the form of font files.
Remember: the colors you see on print will never be the same as on screen. - Sufficiently small elements located on the plate should have an ultra-thin outline, it is not visible on the print, but in this way the plate will not absorb small elements so much.
Any other plastic product:
- Everything above applies to this item, except for the dimensions.
- The maximum size is A4 minus 5mm around the perimeter. You can also prepare a layout in A4 level, but keep in mind that 5mm around the perimeter will be cut off.
If you experience difficulties preparing a layout or are unsure if it meets the requirements, specialists at Printing Center “306” will help check the file and suggest the optimal solution for your order.
